Dr Leo Jago. OAM

Leo started his career as an engineer for Defence Research before moving to Exxon-Mobil as an Economics Engineer where he was responsible to the Board for planning and performance assessment for the Australian petrochemical division. After leaving Exxon-Mobil, Leo owned and operated a range of successful service sector businesses in Victoria and Queensland. For the last 25 years, Leo has been a Professor and Director of a range of university and government research centres in Australia and the UK including three years as the inaugural Chief Economist and General Manager of Tourism Research Australia. He recently returned to Australia after 6 years at the University of Surrey where he is now an Emeritus Professor.

In 2016, Leo was awarded an Order of Australia Medal (OAM) for services to education and the tourism industry.

Leo has extensive experience in economic evaluation and managing large scale national projects. Having held a senior executive position in government, he has a sound understanding of the policy framework as well as compliance, risk and governance issues. As many of the projects that he has managed both in government and industry have involved large numbers of stakeholders, he has developed substantial expertise in stakeholder engagement.

Leo has recently joined VMS to assist in Compliance and Risk Management in relation to innovation and technology.
